Christopher Newport University has made the decision to discontinue the varsity sailing program. That news is difficult, not just because a team is ending, but because something that shaped all of us is at risk of being lost.

Now it’s on us to step up. 

A group of alumni has come together to launch a campaign to protect the future of CNU Sailing and has been able to establish a new 501(c)3 foundation to support this mission. 

Whether that means restoring varsity status or building a strong, competitive club program, the goal is simple: 

CNU Sailing continues.

We are working to secure $5 million in a combination of pledges and donations before May 31st, 2026 in order to prove to CNU Administration that this team is backed by an unwaivering community who has stepped up to show both interest and support.
